japan fashion week: gut’s dynamite cabarets

gut’s dynamite cabarets (ガッツ ダイナマイト キャバレーズ) is designed by “cabaret aki” and “jackal kuzu” and plays something like the japanese version of a richie rich production, probably during his most successful & credible period when he was designing heatherette with traver rains.

the collection has run since the s/s 2005 season and is a spectacle of glittery, lavish fabulosity that surprisingly tends to inspire a select contingent of the fashion populace not particularly moved by the more high-art unwearable pieces.  they lie quietly dormant through most of fashion week, then pop up at shows such as this one to scream & celebrate, perhaps relieved that they now have garments to sport to the new seasons of mtv show launches.

these types of clothing are produced in a kind of tongue-in-cheek manner, without concentrated thoughts on their lasting effects, but more for those one-hit special occasions one can break them out & be a piece of walking performance art.

and it’s nice to have them.  it may not be the most important work we’ve seen produced, but it’s nice to have a certain sector energized by higher fashion, which they otherwise might cast aside.
